I’m gonna try to keep this write-up short or at least sweet because we have a lot to go over. I’ve talked a lot about Godox in Cine Kit List over the last few years. I’ve been speaking at their booth at NAB and Cinegear every year for the last 4 years and earlier this summer, I even flew out to visit the Godox factory in China with my friends John Roche (Gaffer’s Salon), Luke Seerveld (Meet the Gaffer) and Andrew Locke (Gaffer and Gear). We had a great time, thanks to Godox for bringing us out!
Now, why did four gaffluencers agree to go to China to tour a Godox factory?
We believe in Godox and their future. We’re all working Gaffers first and we actually use Godox products on set. They’re well built, bright, color accurate and Godox is really starting to innovate within their lineups. See their KNOWLED lineup, especially the F-series mats, MS60Rs, MG4Ks and AM1600R series.
I’ve been SO impressed by new Godox releases over the last 18 months.
Godox has been a growing force in the pro LED space since the debut of their KNOWLED lineup. From the 1200B on, I have incorporated more and more of their units into our on set workflow and today my truck is around 50% Godox. Right away, I’ll tell you that their original 1200B is still a STAPLE for us. I own 3 of them and use them in combination with each other all the time. Other favorites for me are the F400R, F200SR, F800R and MS60R series. The F-series flex mats have been industry shaking. They’re bright, affordable, full color, lightweight and portable, fully IP rated, with CRMX fixtures and they work on every one of our jobs. You can do accomplish a HELLUVA LOT with a lighting package as simple as a single 1200B (or 1200R), two F400Rs and a 4-pack of MS60Rs with modifiers!
Recent favorites are the MG60K and totally badass AM1600R (8x8 LED 1600w full color mat)!
In fact, I gave myself a challenge a few months ago. I was headed down to MS to film Morgan Freeman (a bucket list project for me) with friend DP Matt Wolcott. I had just gotten the new Godox MS60Rs in and I wanted to film our entire project with Godox units. My main lights were F800R, F200SR and a 4-pack of the MS60Rs. With those 6 lights we pulled off the entire shoot and I’m pleased with how it turned out! Check out some case study slides from my presentation at Cinegear 2025.
Working with the F800R (800w 4×4 full color LED mat) as the key, the F200SR as overhead and some MS60Rs sprinkled about as kickers.
The F200SR is a super versatile light. Love it for overheads. Use it like you would use 2-3 Titans ganged together in a Lightsock. It’s about as bright as 3 tubes at full blast.
Another quick case study here is the Godox F400R working as a the primary overhead key on Travis and Jason Kelce on a special episode of their New Heights podcast. We use a lot of Godox products when these guys decide to do an in-person episode.

Wrapping up, here’s the new Godox MG6K working off a Matthews Crank O Vator III (25% off Matthews deal here) on a project I can’t share final frames for yet. But I will say that the MG6K is a BEAST. It can run at full power off 2X Honda EU200Is in parallel mode and I’m absolutely loving it. Here it is paired with the Beamlight to create a really lovely tight light for both direct and indirect (off a cine reflector) use.
